The Community Legal Clinic provides free and confidential legal information, advice, and advocacy in a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment. Our legal services are free of charge for people with low income. We use a set of income guidelines to determine whether you qualify for our services. The Community Legal Clinic serves Central Alberta, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, and Fort McMurray.

We offer advice on legal issues such as:

  • Landlord/Tenant
  • Wills and Estates
  • Employment
  • Small Claims/Debt
  • Criminal Law
  • Traffic/Bylaws
  • Family Law
  • Personal Injury
  • Immigration Law

You must book an appointment to see a lawyer, and appointments are available virtually. When you first contact our office, you will speak with someone from our intake team. They will ask you some questions to see if you qualify for our services. If you do, they will guide you through the next steps to book a future appointment with a volunteer lawyer. Or, if you do not qualify, they will do their best to refer you to the next best place to assist with your needs.

Other information:

  • Appointments are about 30 minutes long
  • If you have a criminal matter you must get your Disclosure from the Crown’s office or at your first appearance before an appointment can be booked
  • Clients need to have their own interpreter, if required
  • Organize and have any important papers ready, including court documents for your appointment
