Thank you for choosing to volunteer with the Community Legal Clinic. We appreciate your time and dedication. We owe the success of our programs to people like you who graciously give their time and expertise to help others in need. Thank you!

For Firms and Individual Lawyers:

Summary

At the Community Legal Clinic we offer confidential legal information, advice, advocacy, and potentially representation in a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment at no cost to the clients. Additionally, in order for clients to meet with a volunteer lawyer they must meet our financial guidelines to be booked for an appointment.

We serve Central Alberta, as well as Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, and Fort McMurray.

Clinic Program:

Our clinic program utilizes the donated time of our volunteers to offer summary legal advice to clients who qualify. Furthermore, these individual appointments are 30-45 minutes long and the clinic itself is roughly 2 hours long. Appointments are normally conducted over the phone so you can easily give clients the information and next steps for their situation. Documents are provided to you in advance.

Other Programs:

We also offer other programs such as legal presentations, Ask-A-Lawyer clinics, and more.

LESA Partnership

We are happy to announce that we have partnered with LESA to offer volunteer lawyers who complete 12 x 2-hour shifts (24 hours) in the 2023 calendar year, one free LESA webinar (up to $95).*

*Shift hours must be completed within the 2023 calendar year, and one free webinar from LESA per person, per calendar year.

Ask-A-Lawyer: In-person and virtual clinics. First-come, first-served basis with no advance conflict checks. The atmosphere is less formal and appointments are typically 15 to 30 minutes. (Our primary Ask-A-Lawyer is at the GH Dawe Library in Red Deer every third Monday of the month). Public Legal Education and Information Program: Presenting law topics to the public such as: Wills/Personal Directives/Power of Attorney, Considering Separation, Women and the Law, Landlord Tenant, and Representing Yourself. PowerPoint presentations are available and provided by the Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA). Indigenous Program: We partner with different Indigenous communities to help bring them legal services and programs that they would not otherwise have access to. These programs and services run similar to our other clinics during evening hours through video conference.
If you selected our Clinic Program, please fill out the questions below: Volunteers typically commit to providing summary legal advice once per month in this program in either 30 or 45 minute appointments. We are happy to accommodate the frequency that you feel you are able to commit, as such, please choose the options that best apply. If none of the below options reflect how you wish to volunteer, please choose other and our volunteer coordinator will reach out to you.
